Mystery Quilt class

Antelope Quilters Guild has offered  a variety of activities such as monthly meetings with guest speakers, demonstrations , classes and seminars on quilting techniques, and monthly mini-groups for fun and fellowship plus seasonal  retreats.

Due to Covid-19 we have suspended all in-person meetings, but are using Zoom for general and board meetings.

We have been using Zoom for Mystery Quilt Classes. Our own Rhonda Doty lead a group of quilters through the mysterious process of cutting fabric, laying out and stitching without knowing the design or look of their final project. We had great participation and already Rhonda has started a second mystery quilt group.

Unveiling 2020-2021 Opportunity Quilt

We are happy to present to you the 2021-2022 opportunity quilt,

Women Make the World a Brighter Place

The quilt measures 76” by 89”.  The pattern we used (with permission) was International Sun Bonnet Sue by Debra Kimball, MD.

We are grateful for the many hands that worked on this beautiful quilt.  We are planning on entering it in the California State Fair in 2021.

All of the blocks were made using scrap fabrics from Kathy Beard, Lynnda Fair, Lydia Shelton, and Fabienne Dransfield.

The blocks were needle turned hand appliqued by Barbara Davis, Claudine Matulich, JoAnn Lewis, Teresa Lambing, Lynnda Fair, Kathy Beard, Lydia Shelton, and Fabienne Dransfield.

The Belgium block was not part of the pattern.  It was designed by Sharon Garsee.

Hand embroidery was done by Sharon Garsee.

The name of the countries were machine embroidered by Jeannie Cheyne.

The piecing was done by Fabienne Dransfield.

The free-motion quilting was done by JoAnn Lewis.  JoAnn researched the flower associated with each country and quilted it in its corresponding  block.  There is a label on the back of the quilt with the name of the flowers.

The binding was done by Teresa Lambing.

Our Busy Community Service Committee and Guild Still Busy

Even with the Covid -19 restrictions, many of our guild members are still busy, while staying home and social distancing, making quilts for our community. Needs and disasters are still happening, even though we can not meet and sew together as a group.

We would like to share what our guild has done in the past, and let you know we are still working!

How you can help

What is Community Service?

Community service has packets laid out for quilting and binding.

Community service has packets laid out for quilting and binding.

Our Community Service Program is a year round, ongoing program. Members have a choice to take home materials for making a quilt, or you may use fabric from your own stash to make a quilt. You could help cut fabric for our blocks; sign up to make quilt deliveries, sew on bindings or even help us by quilting a quilt. We encourage each member of our Guild to get involved. There are several projects available for you to pick up on a monthly basis. Just come by the table at one of our meetings and choose a project to take home.

Different projects you may want to help us with:

  • Making blocks for Block Party.
  • Quilt tops assembled with backing and batting are also available each month. Take the quilt home, quilt it and return it to our table.
  • Sewing bindings on quilts. Some of us like to bind and if that is your talent take an unbound quilt home and return it when finished.
  • If you desire, you may also make a quilt from start to finish. It is your choice.
  • Be sure and check out all of the new opportunities that we have available for you each month.

Community service committee meets nearly every Wednesday from 9:30am to 2pm at the Center Joint Unified School District Office. We sew, cut fabric and put quilts together. Everyone is welcome. Sometimes the location for our sew day changes but we always have advanced notification.
